Am I the only one who is shaken to the core by the political climate in this country? Upon hearing that Barack Obama has an 81 percent chance of earning the democratic nomination for the presidency, I need to speak out on something that few people may be considering.

While I have no ill will toward Mr. Obama, I think he is a very bright and politically savvy man. I am afraid for what his election could bring upon the American people. Barack Obama was raised by an atheist mother and a Muslim father and later a radical Muslim stepfather.

He has renounced Islam. I do not know if this is where his heart truly lies or if he simply recognized that it is politically expedient in this nation to be affiliated with Christianity. In any case, with the conflict in Iraq and our tenuous foreign relations with the Arab world, there is a point to be made about Obama's affiliation with Islam.

We are at war with a sector of people who are religious radicals, people who routinely use suicide bombers as a means of destroying those they deem to be "infidels." An infidel, in the mind of a radical Muslim, is anyone who is not Muslim.

What does Barack Obama have to do with terrorism? Everything. This election is crucial to the future of this country, as well as bringing an end to the war in Iraq. If Obama has not truthfully relinquished all of his connections to the Muslim faith, we are in all likelihood electing a terrorist as president.

Al-Qaida and the Taliban have both made statements promising to "destroy America from the inside out." What better way to destroy us than by allowing the people of America to elect a Muslim president?

If he has in fact renounced Islam, in the eyes of the Muslim world he is now the worst kind of infidel, one who turned his back on their religion, and rest assured that they will stop at nothing to destroy him and America at all costs.

If we thought 9/11 was bad, wait until the inauguration of the worst kind of infidel as president of the United States. Terrorists do not fight soldiers. They fight citizens. So in order to avoid this, what do the citizens of America do? They most certainly do not elect a terrorist, or a man who will bring terrorist attacks to heights never seen before. So it bears asking: Obama, terrorist or target?

" Here's a thought, just a thought: because the man was brought up with an athiest mother and Muslim father and more radical Muslim stepfather, maybe he has learned some hard lessons a more narrow upbringing would not teach. I think we should give the man credit for wisdom instead of spread fear by paranoid speculation. Unless, of course, it's really about racist fear, then it's hopeless because that stuff -- that stuff doesn't go away by any reasoning, any therapy, any experience. "

This can, has been, and will continue to be used against most any candidate in reference to his or her associations with wingnuts, labor bosses, lobbyists, socialists, racists, and deviants of most every stripe and order. A more detailed and enlightening explanation of this type of communication can be obtained by Googling the name, Harry. C. Frankfurt. "

" It was well past the time in this nation founded on social freedoms and personal liberty for a woman , a black man , a Jew or other non-Christian to be nominated for the Presidency. We have worked for 232 years to make that scripted possibility into political reality. Unfortunately , the Bush-Cheney Hegemony has made it impossible for the next President to achieve anything beyond triage and damage control for the country they inherit. Probably the next several Presidents will be forced to spend their greater efforts rebuilding America from the Bush debacles and corruption and senseless warmongering and economic reversals. All that and more. America will likely never again be the eminent nation and guiding light for the planet, regardless of who is elected this November. Bad timing for Barack and Hillary...business as usual for McCain. It's difficult to turn the Ship of State around in such treacherous currents. It's not about al-Quaeda or the Taliban at all... America shot itself in both feet, one gun held by Cheney the other by Bush. And Wyoming gave them the ammunition at the voting booth. "

" All Lauren hit on was a convenient way for people who don't want to vote for a black person to have a pathetic excuse. Her entire comment was about the perils of voting for Barack Obama, not about the limited choices Americans have this political year. And yeah this whole theory was bandied about the media some weeks ago, by people who also were looking for any excuse not to support Mr. Obama except that he is black. BTW, i do not support any of these candidates, because they all belong to a political party. "

the democrats apparently didn't vet him at all, otherwise the rev wright debacle would not have happened. what else do we not know about obama?

it seems to me that he will say anything he thinks he has to in order to get elected. all you need do is to look at all of his statements from the time the wright story broke, to see how his mind works.

he seems to feel that he can do anything, use anyone, and say whatever he has to, in order to present the right image. in other words he acts like a psychopath.

his skin color matters to him more than to most americans. the truth is that he has no qualifications at all to be president let alone congressman. "

California Bob whatever you do, don't look under the bed, in the closet or even in your soup. There could be a terrorist connection lurking there. In your 4th line of your comment, I couldn't help thinking how snugly that behavioral description fit every person who has ever been elected to the U.S. presidency. Maybe that is why the presidents office is oval shaped (no sharp edges) and well padded. You know, we couldn't take chances with those 42 or so psycopaths. I think Obama's skin color matters to at least one more person than just himself. "

Lauren all Muslims are not terrorists just as all Jews are not trying to take over the world. I know many Muslims who love this country and could do a far better job leading the Government than our present or even past presidents have done. Oh and by the way I am not a Muslim or a Jew, just someone who is offended when a whole group of people get stereotyped by a few nut jobs that profess to be a part of a group. Anyone who elects the CEO of an oil field services company from Dubai that calls itself a "logistics outsourcing services provider" gets what they deserve. A milk machine instead of a decisive military victory. Think of how many times you've heard the administration say, "We have killed Al Qaeda's number 2 leader... please approve more money" and you will get what I'm saying. Some of the most productive and positive presidential administrations this country ever had were under presidents that were younger than Obama and with less experience in everything that a president might need some experience in. As for the questionable judgment, you gotta be kidding. What does questionable mean in this context? There is no way to substantiate that criticism with what little anybody knows at this point about his judgment. The same concern could have been leveled at Ted Roosevelt, John Kennedy, George W. Bush, Ulysses Grant, John Q. Adams, Richard Nixon, Lyndon Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Herbert Hoover and many others. Someone has been drinking the partisan kool aid again and apparently asking the very accurate and upstanding media for more. "

It offends me that anyone living in this country doesn't understand how our country was founded and the circumstances surrounding the writing of our great constitution..religious freedom and the separation of church and state. The right to sue civil and have a jury trial. It was not for the 'Christian" faith, it was for the individual to decide what faith they CHOOSE, not the government. The men that wrote our constitution were often agnostics. What about the "White supremasist" so call themselves "Christian" ?? Does the Christian faith want Muslims to base their opinion of the majority of Christians on the actions of the few radicals that profess to be of their faith?Yes, I agree that there are some VERY scary things going on in our country NOW, and one of them is the hatred of prejudice... Of course, most forms of bigotry, religious, gender based, or racial, are simple, aren't they? "

These republican politicians have got this country so screwed up, broken down, sunk in debt.... we'll be another twenty years getting out of this mess. Even Alan Greenspan now agrees we're on the wrong course. He's as old-school as you can get. The fact that Haliburton just moved its headquarters from Houston to Dubai tells you what the insiders really think now about long term economic prospects in America. And it ain't rosy. Their fundamental understanding of economics, national security and international relations are shallow and ill conceived. They both pose a danger to your and my life style and safety. If you doubt it, think about one issue only. Taxes. Never has raising taxes in a slowing or declining economy improved the economy or the lives of Americans. If the Bush tax cuts are allowed to end a family making $50,000 annually with two children will see a direct tax hike of nealy $2,000 annually. The indirect effects are harder to judge, but rest assured that it will be manifold the direct impacts. "

In specific evidence I offer the several supporters for Mr. Obama posting above, and anyone supporting a democrat in general. Yes, the democrats all have many grand ideas, none doable in any real terms of course, and never a actionable plan to execute these dreams of utopia either.

These same people seem to think that the government is a source of income generation and unlimited resources to pour out on every group that will not work for themselves, and every pet idea posed by the newest whack job to crawl out from under the rugs of life. They also seem to think that were we to merely open the boarders and hug those who hate our values everything will be fine tomorrow (FYI: hope is not a plan, or method).

What we do need it seems is more mental institutions to put these ill educated dupes into until such time as they are capable of reasonable, adult thought. "
